Palace Confirm 25-Man Squad for Premier League

Neil Warnock has named the 25-man squad he thinks has the best chance of keeping Crystal Palace in the Premier League, with new signings Andrew Johnson, James MacCarthy, Kevin Doyle and Zeki Fryers all making the cut.

There are no spots in the squad however for fringe players Owen Garvan, Peter Ramage, Stuart O’Keefe and Jimmy Kebe, all of whom will surely be looking for loan moves away from Selhurst Park in the coming weeks as they go in search of first team football.

Players born after January 1993 are not required to be listed in the 25-man team, so the likes of Jonny Williams and Hiram Boateng are still eligible to play for the Eagles this season despite there absence from the list.

Barry Bannan

Marouane Chamakh

Andy Johnson Returns to Palace on a Short-Term Deal

Crystal Palace’s legendary striker Andrew Johnson has returned to the club after an eight year stint away from Selhurst Park. The 33-year-old centre forward, who was a free agent this summer after being released by QPR, has signed a short term contract that will keep him at the club until January 2015.

Johnson revealed that he has not signed purely in a playing capacity, with the front man also looking to put his years of experience to good use by working with the Palace academy in a coaching role.

He told the official Crystal Palace Website: “I am delighted to be coming back to a club that I love and have a real soft spot for. I would like to thank the gaffer and the chairman for giving me this opportunity and I am looking forward to helping this football club have continued success in the Premier League.

“I have also been given an opportunity to help the youngsters in a coaching capacity, something I am really looking forward to getting involved in.”

Although signed by new boss Neil Warnock as back up he will be hoping to try and recapture some of the dazzling form that saw him score 85 goals in 160 games for the South London club during his first spell, which also led to him being voted into the Eagles Centenary XI team.
